The participants of the India study trip ventured jointly to an authentic Indian restaurant. Dr. Nathan preordered several ethnic dishes so that we could familiarize ourselves with Indian foods. Among the foods ordered was Naan bread, a staple food in India. It may best be described as the Indian version of Mediterranean pita bread. Naan is thinner and has a more chewy texture than pita. Somosa, the Indian empanada, was another one of my favorite dishes that we sampled last Friday.

Study Abroad Samosa

Somosa is another traditional South Asian food that is very prevalent in Indian cuisine. It is a triangular deep fried pastry that is typically filled with mashed potatoes peas and onion. Depending on region, beef can be another filling substituted for the traditional vegetation version. Somosas are usually served with chutneys that range in flavor from spicy or sweet curry to cool mint.
