The Departed
It is a quarter to three, on the day of departure and all are present and accounted for. It is a beautiful day in Atlanta with a high temperature of seventy-seven degrees. Tomorrow when we arrive in Delhi the temperature will be one hundred and seven degrees. This will surely be some of the hottest most intense heat that anyone on our trip has ever been subjected to.
The mood in the in terminal D12 is cheerful as people begin to gather and chat about our adventures to come. I am a little anxious as I wait for our boarding call to be announced. I’ not worried about flying, or even the fact that a three-hour lay over awaits me in Newark. The shear length of the second flight is the reason for my concern.
Nearly twenty-four hours of air travel await my fellow students and I. Hopefully, my new book will keep me occupied enough to ignore being stranded at thirty thousand feet above the Earth’s surface. I am however, looking forward to my first real airplane meal in years!
